In this final part of my blog series about building an Image Library, I'll show you how the data (the images shown in the dialog) is collected. Although the library is run from the Smartsite Manager, the provider is built entirely with SXML. At the end of this article, I give you a link to download everything you need for adding the library to you own environment. Parts of the provider The Image Library shows images stored in the database as well as images stored in the filesystem. It's the...

According to Urban Dictionary : 'Mumbling the answer to a question in hopes that the questioner won't hear or understand an answer that may get you in trouble.' That sums up my tactics concerning javascript: I can get it to work the way I need it to, but I never really understand the why and how. When people start asking me questions about the inner workings, I'll definetly get in trouble. In this 5th part of my series about building an Image Library in the Smartsite Manager, we'll look at...

It doesn't sound as good as 'show me the money!' but since this is a free example that wouldn't be appropriate. This is part 4 of my on-going series of posts about the Image Library. In this part I'm going to tell more about the definition of the main dialog. One of the great possibilities of the Smartsite Manager is that you can build your own extensions. That can be done in quite a few ways. Building a DLL in Visual Basic 6 (is it still on your system?) is just one of them. For the Image...

In this part I'll show you how the configuration of the Image Library in the Smartsite Manager is done. Absolutely no DLL's were hurt during the development and testing of this application! This means everything is stored as items and configuration in the Smartsite database. I've set up a CMS Folder to group all of the items in one place: As you can see in the image above, the whole Image Library consists of only three items: An (xml) item which contains the definition of the dialog; An...

In my introduction to this blog series, I gave you a short overview of the Image Library. In this second part we'll further explore it's front-end. As they say: 'A picture says more than a thousand words'. So let me start by showing you a sceenshot of the interface. I'll elaborate on the various parts of the dialog below. Searching for images As you can see you can search for images by entering a keyword in the appropriate textbox. 'Enter' in the textbox or a click on the...

The 'Image' command in the WebEditor is not the most user friendly way for an editor to insert an image. Of course this will all be much, much better when the Eagle has landed. In the meantime, I would like to present you, or actually your (customers) editors, an alternative way of finding, selecting and inserting images: the Image Library. Over the next few posts I’ll present you the steps I took to extend the WebEditor with a fully functional Image Library. In short,...

Het leek stil te zijn geworden rondom SmartInstant. De laatste release dateert alweer van september 2009. Schijn bedriegt. Achter de schermen is keihard doorgewerkt. Met gepaste trots presenteren we het resultaat van die inspanningen: SmartInstant 1.5. In SmartInstant 1.5 is veel, heel veel, gewijzigd. In de rest van deze (lange) blogpost geef ik een opsomming van de wijzigingen en aanpassingen. Drie compleet nieuwe vormgevingen Niet alleen qua uiterlijk kunnen we weer voor de dag komen maar vooral...

In SmartInstant 1.5, which will be made available in the near future, I use the standard ASP.NET forms authentication to login users and visitors in the front-end. All the required functionallity is neatly tucked away in the <se:login> macro. No worries there. The ASP.NET method has one problem: in the web.config file, I can only set one page to which all requests are redirected. This doesn't work well in a multi-channel environment. Especially not when each channel has it's own graphical design....
